Construction of atoms
We have been learning all about atoms and static electricity in science this week. For our art lesson, the children had to work in groups and were given mini marshmallows, cocktail sticks, paint and glue. They had to construct their own atoms. You can see the protons and neutrons in the nucleus (the centre of the atom) and the electrons are circling around the nucleus, The electrons can jump from atom to atom, which causes things to be positively or negatively charged. This can cause us to get a shock when we touch things like a trolley, or a doorknob or a car door handle.

St.Brigid's Day
We celebrated St.Brigid's Day on the 1st of February by singing a song for St.Brigid and learning how to make St.Brigid's crosses. Each child brought home their own cross that they made in school, to bring health and happiness into their homes.

Music/Christmas Tree Decorations (showing the tune for Silent Night)
The children in 3rd class have been learning how to read music and play the tin whistle since September. This week for art, we made our own Christmas trees using the music notes for the song 'Silent Night'. This was a very enjoyable activity. The children had to work together to figure out the correct order for the music notes. This will be a lovely keepsake that the children will have for years to come.
